YKI (National Certificate of Language Proficiency) is Finland's official Finnish language test — required for citizenship, and often asked for by employers. A quick, informal check of where you stand before you register.
YKI is run by the Finnish National Agency for Education (Opetushallitus) and comes in three levels, each matched to the CEFR scale used across Europe:
For Finnish citizenship, you typically need at least grade 3 at the Intermediate level (B1) in one oral and one written subtest. The real test covers listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
25 reading & vocabulary questions from beginner (A1) to advanced (C1), including work-life Finnish — see where you stand, and what to focus on next. Takes about 10–12 minutes.
Please don't use a translator, and choose "I don't know" instead of guessing: the result is only useful if it shows your own level. Informal practice check, not an official YKI result.
After your free result, you can get a personal study plan plus a practice workbook (PDF) for your level, for €2.99. Most people's result is around A2. Here's a look inside that workbook.

Yes. The check is free and takes about 10 minutes. You see your estimated level, the topics to practise next and which answers you got right or wrong. An optional study pack for your level costs €2.99.
The 25 questions go from beginner (A1) to advanced (C1) on the European CEFR scale, the same scale the YKI test uses. Beginner questions include English help; from B1 up, everything is in Finnish.
No. It is an informal reading and vocabulary check. It does not test listening, writing or speaking, and it cannot be used as proof of your Finnish level. Only a real YKI certificate can do that.
Many employers ask for good everyday Finnish, often around B1, but it depends on the job. For Finnish citizenship you usually need an intermediate-level (B1) YKI certificate. Check the exact requirements on migri.fi and from the employer.

It only covers reading and vocabulary, not listening, writing or speaking, which are also part of the real YKI test. Your actual YKI result may be different. This tool cannot be used to prove language proficiency for citizenship, visas, employment or any official purpose. Only a real YKI certificate can do that.
