Unofficial practice. Fovo is an independent service, not affiliated with the Finnish National Agency for Education (OPH) or the YKI test. The tasks are written in the style of the YKI writing test, but they are not real test tasks. The feedback is made by AI and can make mistakes. Your text is sent once to our AI provider to make the feedback and is not saved by Fovo. Please don't write real personal details.
Write your answer without a translator. The word count and a clock help you practise the length and timing.
Get feedback on grammar, words, tone and whether you did the task, plus a corrected version of your text.
Tips for the YKI writing test
Answer every point in the task. If the task asks for three things, write about all three. Missing one is one of the most common reasons for a lower result.
Match the tone. A message to a friend can start with Hei Maija! and end with Moikka!. A formal email starts with Hyvä vastaanottaja and ends with Ystävällisin terveisin.
Connect your sentences with small words: koska, mutta, siksi, lisäksi, esimerkiksi, toisaalta. Connected text reads like a higher level.
Polite forms help:Voisitteko…? Haluaisin kysyä… sound much better than direct questions in a formal email.
Check the endings at the end: verb forms (minä olen, hän on) and negatives (en pääse, not ei pääse).
Keep to the length. A text that is far too short can't show your level. A very long text has more room for mistakes.
